IILD, in collaboration with Bangladesh 2.0 Initiative, convened a high-level roundtable to examine the feasibility and design of a Truth and Healing Commission for Bangladesh. The event brought together an unusually broad coalition of participants: Professor Tatsushi Arai, a conflict resolution practitioner from Kent State University; photojournalist and activist Shahidul Alam; Huma Khan of the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office; and political figures including Hummam Quader Chowdhury of the BNP. The discussion centred on how a formal commission might document abuses, support victims, and establish a credible record of past wrongs — while remaining sensitive to the political and institutional fragility of the current moment. Following the session, participants agreed to form a working committee to develop a concrete proposal for the commission’s mandate and structure.
